Clubs

The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum is proud to offer a fun and educational option for students during their time out of school. The Orpheum’s clubs offer a unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on exploration of science and technology. Late registrations are always welcome! Any open spots in either STEAMpunk program will be available as a first come first serve basis after February 8th.

Imagination City (K-5th)

Do you enjoy creating and imagining with LEGO? Explore the engineering, design, and creative potential of LEGO. This dynamic curriculum will give children a new appreciation for LEGO and the infinite possibilities as they test their brains to construct animals, buildings, simple machines, transportation, and model an original LEGO City.

Jr. Robotics Club (K-1st)

Join us as we explore the world of robotics by using the Lego WeDo kits. We will work through a variety of builds and gain a familiarity with not only Lego, but the basics of programming. These young students will focus on learning to follow the guided builds and basics of programming in the Lego WeDo app. Students will be encouraged to think creatively and make modifications to each build throughout the club.

Jr. Robotics (2nd-4th)

In this session of Jr. Robotics, students who have already encountered the Lego WeDo kits before will be encouraged to take on a more challenging set of builds. These builds will help us learn about and apply our knowledge on a series of fields ranging from biology, to space exploration, and even weather. These unguided builds will push students to creatively think about each lesson and will allow them to explore increasingly complex engineering and programming principles along the way.

Exploring Robotics (3rd-6th)

This is a great opportunity to learn robotics basics by working with LEGO Mindstorms®. Participants will work in teams to build models, attach sensors and motors that are plugged into a computer, and configure behaviors using a simple programming tool. Participants are challenged by various problems and work together with team members to find solutions. Students will guide their own learning by setting personal goals and objectives and reaching them with the help of their peers and instructors.
