Orpheum Children's Science Museum

Mission Smart Grid

The Orpheum’s Smart Grid exhibit opened in September of 2010. This interactive exhibit explores how new technologies will increase options for consumers to use electronic devices to manage their electricity consumption. It teaches about electricity production and delivery. Visitors earn about the balance between energy costs and concerns about climate change and the environment. They are able to view effects of increasing amounts of renewable energy sources like wind and solar. This exciting and important exhibit is the result of collaboration between the Office for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTE) and the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum. The exhibit is made possible through a grant from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement at UIUC.
