Girls Do Science Club

"Today's girls are tomorrow's scientists"

The solution to adult problems tomorrow depends on how our children grow up today.

The Girls Do Science Club, which is a part of the Orpheum Children's Science Museum, gives girls opportunities to learn about different areas of science from the women who perform this important work, in a fun and interactive environment. We hope you show your support of science education by joining our club, or by donating your time or financial support.

The Girls Do Science Club links girls with the many science and math learning opportunities in our community. Small groups meet monthly to visit with scientists, engineers, and doctors and go together to science events going on all over C-U. Destinations have included the Anita Purves Nature Center, local farms and prairies, the Beckman, Staerkel Planetarium, Audubon bird events, and Nature Conservancy field trips. The Club has also scheduled trips to some nearby big city museums.

The pogram will meet once a month. The first meeting will be a lesson or activity to introduce a scientific topic. The lessons will be centered around an experiment for hands-on learning. These sessions will beet at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum.

The second meeting will be a field trip to a lab, business or organizatoin where we will have women scientists talk to the girls about their field of work. The lessons will be related to the field trip topic, so the girls will have more background knowledge to be informed and active participants during the field trip.

Other extracurricular field trips may include day excursions to museums or research centers in Chicago.

Club members receive a regularly updated listing of these science events, the only central listing available in our community! They also earn annual recognition prizes for participation.
