21st Annual Kids Building Fair May 18th from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., FREE Event This award-winning event gives children an educational and hands-on introduction to the building trades that are involved in the preservation of historic buildings like the Orpheum Theatre. The Kid's Building Fair has educational and appealing activities for the whole family, and offers a unique opportunity to explore the building trades. The Fair is held each year in celebration of Historic Preservation Week, through on-going support and collaboration with PACA. Participants can visit Carpenter City where creations spring to life out of wood, nails, and paint. Visit In My City to test your eye at recognizing local architectural gems. Go Green City explores alternative energy and building materials that are creating positive changes in our environment. A guaranteed favorite, Tile City, is an opportunity to create a masterpiece out of tile and grout. Plumbing City is sure to bring out the inner child as you plumb a water fountain. A new activity, Fasteners City, will provide you with just the right hook up. Brick and Mortar City illustrates why the smartest pig made his house out of bricks. In all, attendees will participate in more than 20 different cities, all related to building trades, engineering, and preservation. July 27 at 7 p.m. through July 28 at 9 a.m. This summer, spend an unforgettable night at the Orpheum! Admission includes a discovery hunt by flashlight, games, a movie, as well as an evening snack and light breakfast. For kids ages 5 to 13 and their parents. The after-hours sleepover begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 a.m. Grab your sleeping bag and pillow to sleep among the dinosaurs in the majestic Orpheum theatre! Tickets must be purchased in advance, and more information, including frequently asked questions, is available at www.orpheumkids.com. Overnight guests are responsible for maintaining the chaperone ratio of one adult for every four children. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. $30 members, $40 nonmembers.
